If musicians could make the products that they need every day for themselves without limitations, they could not make them better than D'Addario/Planet Waves makes them. D'Addario/Planet Waves products are made with an undeniable emphasis on quality, style and practicality. They make every day that I am onstage more comfortable and stress-free. Thank you, D'Addario!

A D’Addario Fretted player since 2011.

Richard was born in 1978 in Bratislava, Slovakia, and was raised in the near-by village of Pezinok. He first crossed paths with bluegrass music when he learned to play the guitar in his local Boy Scout troop. Richard’s musical seeds were firmly planted by the age of 13 when he received a guitar, his first instrument, as a Christmas present from his father. At age 15, he became fascinated with the banjo and used his first paychecks to buy one of his very own. Richard's first musical steps were guided by Slovakian banjo players Palo Ochaba and Jano Bratinka. This was quickly followed by in-depth study of American recordings by artists such as Flatt & Scruggs, J.D. Crowe, and later on Alison Krauss and Union Station, Blue Highway, Bela Fleck, Jim Mills, Tom Adams, Doyle Lawson, Quicksilver, and many others. Since 1998, Richard has been organizing bluegrass nights called “Bluegrass Session” in Pezinok. In 1999, Richard co-founded the Slovak Bluegrass Association (SkBMA) and served as its president from 2000 to 2005. In 1998, he formed a band called 29 Strings. Since 2002 he has toured extensively and internationally with the Slovak/Czech band, Fragment. In 2001, Richard founded his own agency, Velvet Music, which provides tour support, merchandising, and planning for bluegrass artists in Europe, instrument building (, and operates its very own internet radio station, Radio Velvet. In 2006, Richard toured with the award-winning American bluegrass artists Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike (USA) on their European tour. In February 2012, Richard moved to the US to pursue his musical career, where he again joined Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike as well as other traditional bluegrass musicians and bands such as Carrie Hassler, Mountain Soul, WestWend, Louisa Branscomb, and the Gold Heart Sisters. From 2013 till 2015 Richard spent more time in Europe, but in April 2016 move back to US and start play with Dale Ann Bradley band and continue playing with WestWend. Richard received the prize for best banjo player by the SkBMA in 1999 and 2000. 29 Strings was proclaimed to be the best bluegrass band in those years. In 2004, Fragment received the title of “European Group #1” at the EWOB Festival in Holland. Richard has been fundamental in the Slovakian Bluegrass scene, by playing in and organising tours for European bands like Bill Faster and Fragment. In the last 6 years, he has been instrumental in bringing American Bluegrass Artists to Central Europe, including artists like the Chapmans, Dale Ann Bradley, Steve Gulley, Becky Buller, WestWend, and many more.
